How Do You Repair Stone and Concrete Entrance Steps?
Chips and hairline cracks are cleaned, filled and sealed. Treads that are sunk or cracked through are reset or replaced. Rails are re anchored into sound material, and surfaces get a texture that grips when wet. We choose the method after looking at how each step sits.
Granite steps are heavy but durable. A rocking tread often means the bed beneath it has failed, and we can lift the stone and set it on a fresh bed. If the stone is cracked clean through, patching will not hold.
Where steps meet a cast iron facade, we are careful not to disturb the iron. Water that runs down the facade onto the steps can stain and corrode both, so we check the joint where they meet and seal it.

Do Entrance Steps in NoHo Need Landmarks Approval?
They can. NoHo has the NoHo Historic District and the NoHo East Historic District, and Landmarks Preservation Commission approval can apply to exterior work there. Matching repair is treated differently from replacement with new materials. Ask the city what rules apply at your address.
