Does NoHo Have Driveways?
Almost never. NoHo is made of cast iron and masonry lofts, a few row houses and some newer buildings, all built to the lot line. Concrete that works like a driveway appears in other forms: loading platforms, freight entrances, parking garage ramps and the odd courtyard slab.
If you own a loft building on Bond Street or Great Jones Street, your closest equivalent may be a loading platform or an entrance where trucks back up. Those slabs and aprons take the same abuse as a driveway, and we repair them the same way.
- Chipped apron at a garage or freight door
- Curb cut edges broken by truck tires
- Platform slabs cracked across
- Ramp surfaces worn smooth
- Puddles at the bottom of a ramp
- Joints open between slab and building wall
Curb cuts are the point where private concrete meets the public street. Granite curbs are common in NoHo, which means any work at the curb has to account for stone as well as concrete.

How We Fix It
How Is a Loading Area or Garage Apron Repaired?
The crew cuts out failed concrete, checks the base and pours new concrete shaped to the slope of the area. Light damage can be patched and sealed. Where the slab is broken through, replacement lasts longer. A textured finish gives tires and shoes grip.
In NoHo the base can hide surprises. A slab beside the building may sit over a vault, a pipe run or old fill. We probe first and talk through anything unusual before we pour.
Where a new apron meets a granite curb, the curb is protected and, if needed, reset on a fresh bed. The finished joint should be tight enough that water cannot work under it.
If trucks use the entrance daily, we plan the pour in sections so part of it stays available while the rest cures. That plan goes into the estimate.
What Rules Apply to Curb Cuts and Loading Areas in NoHo?
A DOT permit generally covers anything on the public sidewalk or curb. Private property work has no DOT sidewalk permit, though structural work, retaining walls and curb cuts can still need DOB permits. Two historic districts cover NoHo, so Landmarks review may come into play. Confirm current rules with the city.
The sidewalk next to your property is yours to maintain under Admin Code 19-152, including the stretch where a ramp or apron crosses it. If DOT issues a violation, repair comes first and a dismissal request follows. See sidewalk violations.
Changes to a curb cut are not routine repairs. They can involve DOT and DOB, so verify before planning one.
What if a vault lies under the ramp?
Then the slab carries load into a structure below. A licensed engineer may need to review it, and we say so early rather than pouring over a problem.
