Where Do We Offer Masonry Work in NYC?
We repair and rebuild brick, block and stone in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. We do not serve Staten Island. Choose your borough below for local building types, rules and neighborhoods, or read our main masonry contractor page for the full range of work.
Masonry means the units and the structure: brick, block, stone, steel lintels, parapets, chimneys and walls. It goes beyond joint work, which our citywide brick pointing page covers.
What changes from borough to borough is the kind of building, the height and the approvals.

How Does Masonry Work Differ Across the Four Boroughs?
Manhattan work centers on townhouse stone, pre war lintels and facade repair lists. Brooklyn has row house brick and brownstone stoops. Queens has chimneys, retaining walls and block walls on detached lots. The Bronx has apartment building parapets and areaway walls. Each borough shapes the repair and the permits.
| Borough | Common masonry job | What shapes the work |
|---|---|---|
| Manhattan | Stone stoops, lintels, parapets, facade repairs | Landmark districts, sidewalk protection, tall buildings |
| Brooklyn | Brownstone and brick stoops, lintels, areaway walls | Historic districts, row house access |
| Queens | Chimneys, retaining walls, block walls, brick steps | Yards, slopes and drainage, flood exposure near the water |
| The Bronx | Parapets, facade brick, areaway and retaining walls | Building height, Local Law 11 repair lists |
A leaning garden wall in Queens is a base and drainage problem. A cracked lintel in a Manhattan pre war building is a steel and structural problem. The tools are the same, but the planning is not.

What Permits Apply to Masonry Work Across NYC?
Structural masonry work such as lintel replacement or wall rebuilding can involve a Department of Buildings permit. Landmarks Preservation Commission approval applies to exterior work in historic districts and on landmarked buildings. Facade work on buildings taller than six stories falls under Local Law 11. Confirm current rules with the city.
We handle DOB permits when the scope needs one. Landmark review is a separate process, and we plan schedules around it. We do repairs, not facade inspections, so we work from the list your engineer or inspector provides.
Brownstone is sandstone and limestone is a different stone, so both are repaired as stone, not brick. Matching the material matters more on landmarked blocks.
Step by Step
How Does a Citywide Masonry Job Work?
A mason inspects the wall and you get a written scope. Permits are filed if needed, access and protection go up, damaged masonry comes out, and new brick, block or stone is set. Owners with several buildings get one scope per address.
Inspect and probe
A mason checks the wall and what sits behind the face.
Written scope
The price lists each repair, material and permit.
Permits and access
DOB filings, scaffold and protection are arranged.
Remove and rebuild
Failed masonry comes out and new units are set true.
Finish
Joints, caps and cleanup are completed.

What Affects Masonry Cost Across NYC?
Cost depends on the size of the repair, height, access, material matching, structural steel and approvals, and those differ by borough. A stoop wall in Brooklyn and a parapet rebuild in the Bronx are far apart. Each job is priced in writing after a free visit.
Repair size
A few units differ greatly from a full elevation.
Height and access
Scaffold, lifts and sidewalk protection add planning.
Material matching
Old brick and stone take extra care.
Structural work
Lintels and bearing walls add labor.
Permits and approvals
DOB, LPC and FISP related work shape the scope.

Owners of single houses, co op boards, building managers and landlords with several addresses call us. Some have a leaning chimney or a wall that has started to bulge. Others have a repair list from an inspector. In each case the first step is the same: a mason looks at the wall.
If you own in two boroughs, you do not need two contractors. We schedule the visits, write a scope for each address and keep the material choices consistent where the buildings are similar.
Owners often ask whether a problem is a repair or a rebuild. A short visit answers that, and the written scope explains why.
Repairs matched to the material
Brick, block or stone, each repair is planned around what your building is made of.
Licensed and insured
Construction, injury and workers compensation insurance on every job, including work at height.
25+ years in NYC
